Why you need to post consistently on Instagram (and how to do it!)

After gaining over 39,000 organic followers, people are always asking me what the secret to growing on Instagram is. Is it Hashtags? Reels? Stories? Ads? All of these help, but they would be nothing without…. Consistent Posting (cue the eye rolls, I know and I am sorry!)

Posting consistently on any social media platform is the key to effectively keeping your followers engaged and will also help you find new ones, too! I understand that you are probably tired of hearing this and wish there was a magic wand that would make those new followers appear. But being successful on Instagram is not luck, it takes hard work, discipline and dedication.

Here are my top four reasons why consistent posting will pay off:

  1. You are showing your audience that you are trustworthy. By consistently posting, you are telling your followers (and potential customers and clients) that you are trustworthy and that you will keep showing up.

  2. The algorithm favours it. This means that Instagram prefers accounts that post regularly and will show these accounts to more people.

  3. You will stay on top of the minds of your audience. I don’t know about you, but I need to be reminded of things often. By consistently posting, you are staying in people's minds and when they need your products or services, guess who they will think of? You!

  4. You will see increased engagement. This is the obvious one but by being consistent, your audience will begin to expect and even look forward to your posts. This means that your followers will be more likely to comment, like and share your posts too!

So all of this is great, but how do you ACTUALLY stick to posting consistently?

Well, according to the Oxford Dictionary, consistent means “...done in the same way over time.” The keywords to notice here are over time. Not every day and certainly not to the point of burnout. Find a schedule that works for you. I like to post 3-4 times a week on my CK Creative Media Instagram feed but I like to post daily on my Hollywoodland Photos feed. It is easier for me to post on Hollywoodland Photos because I am constantly curating the content, not creating it.

If posting every day is not realistic for you, then don’t do it. But if it is something you can manage, remember the rules of posting: is this content entertaining, educating and/or inspiring?

Once you have figured out your magic number of how many times a week you will post, my advice is to stick to it! And if this is all still overwhelming to understand, I am offering 1:1 Social Social Strategy Sessions! To find out more click here 👇
